What You Need for a Chain Link Fence

A complete chain link fence requires more than just the mesh. Here’s what goes into a typical installation:

Terminal posts go at corners, ends, and gate openings. These posts carry the tension load and need to be set properly. Heavier gauge than line posts.

Line posts support the fence between terminals. Spacing depends on height and application, but 10 feet on-center is standard for most residential work.

Top rail runs through the line posts and connects at terminals. Keeps the fence straight and adds rigidity, especially important in Oklahoma wind.

Chain link mesh is the actual fencing material. Comes in different heights (4′, 5′, 6′, and custom) and wire gauges. 9-gauge is heavier duty, 11-gauge is standard residential.

Fittings and hardware hold everything together: tension bands, brace bands, post caps, hog rings, and ties. Small parts that matter.

Gates and gate hardware if you need access points. We stock walk gates and drive gates with frames, hinges, and latches to match your fence height and style.

Chain-Link Fence Supply FAQs for Oklahoma Homeowners & Contractors

How long does chain link fence last in Oklahoma?

Galvanized chain link fence lasts 20-30 years in Oklahoma weather. Vinyl-coated adds a few more years and looks better longer. Both handle wind, rain, and temperature swings without much maintenance.

What's the difference between galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link?

Galvanized is bare steel with a zinc coating. It’s rust-resistant and costs less. Vinyl-coated has a black or green plastic coating over galvanized wire. It looks cleaner, adds weather protection, and costs more. Both work fine in Oklahoma.

Do I need a permit for chain link fence in Oklahoma City?

Depends on your location and fence height. Most residential chain link under 6 feet doesn’t require a permit in Oklahoma City, but check with your local code enforcement or HOA before starting. Corner lots and properties near right-of-way may have additional restrictions.
